Title:    Clerk I, Circulation Services

Work: Part-time:  9-20 hours per week, including evenings/weekends; flexible hours necessary

Wages: Step 1:  $8.84 per hour   
Excellent benefits and working conditions

Immediate Supervisor: Circulation Coordinator

Closing Date:   September 22, 2014

Position Summary:  Circulation Services Clerk I’s must provide excellent public service, quickly and accurately charging items out and checking them in for library members.  Other responsibilities include processing patron registrations; performing various clerical tasks in connection with the maintenance of circulation records; operating and maintaining equipment, including computers, printers, cash registers, security devices, etc.; moving and handling all types of library materials; other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent experience and training
  • Ability to work competently, courteously, and cheerfully with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
  • General computer skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Clerical skills, including keyboarding
  • Ability to stand at public service counter for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move books and other library material, transporting materials using a book truck and/or book bin
  • Ability to efficiently use a cash register and other business equipment
  • Familiarity with Windows and other basic computer software
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, enthusiastic
  • Dependable, conscientious, self-motivated

Title:    Shelver

Classification:  Aide I

Part Time: normally 20-24 hours per week, 4 hour shifts; includes day, evening, and weekend shifts

Wages:   $8.10 per hour

Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Circulation Services Coordinator/Shelving Supervisor

Closing Date:   September 22, 2014

Position Summary:  The primary responsibilities are to organize library books and audiovisual items, shelving them in their proper places; empty book bins and book drops; use book carts and bins to transport items from one part of the building to another; other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • High School Student or High School Graduate
  • Ability to work tactfully and courteously with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to sort and organize materials quickly and accurately by alphabet and Dewey Decimal System
  • Ability to stoop, stretch, and stand for up to 4 hours per day
  • Ability to lift and move books and other library material and transport those materials using a book truck and/or book bin
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of computers and automated catalog
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Reliable, dedicated, conscientious
  • Excellent work ethic
