Can't View the Login Page?
Some people have reported that they cannot view the page where they would type in their library card number and PIN to place reserves or view their account. If you are having this problem, one of these two things should solve it for you: (1) Run Windows Update to install updates to Internet Explorer, or (2) install and use Firefox.
Please note: If you can see the web page where you type in your library card number and PIN, you should not need to do this.
1. Windows Update
Running Windows Update and installing patches for Internet Explorer, especially anything that says "cumulative update," seems to fix the problem. (Actually, it's a good idea to run Windows Update periodically and load all the critical updates, because these make your computer less vulnerable to security exploits.) If you have a dial-up Internet connection, Windows Update could take a long time, perhaps several hours.
You can run Windows Update by going to the following web site:
The Windows Update web site leads you through the process, but if you'd like some instructions, below is a link to a good tutorial from James Madison University. The most important thing to remember is that if you want to load all of the Critical Updates, you'll need to continue running Windows Update several times until it tells you there are no Critical Updates to install.

2. Firefox
You can work around the Internet Explorer problem by using different web browser software. Firefox is a very popular alternative to Internet Explorer, and it's free (below is a download link). If you have dial-up Internet access, the download will take a long time. Once you've installed Firefox, you can just start it instead of Internet Explorer if you have cable or DSL; if you have dialup, first connect to the Internet the way you normally do, then leave that window open and start Firefox.
