Follow Us on Twitter
The library is now "tweeting" on Twitter as FallsLibrary. Below is some basic information about Twitter.
What is Twitter?
Twitter is a free service that allows people to post short messages for others to read. These messages, called "tweets," are limited to 140 characters in length.
How can I read the library's "tweets"?
You can go to our profile page in Twitter to see all our tweets, or you can create your own Twitter account and "follow" us. If you follow us on Twitter, you can log into the Twitter web site to see our tweets (and those of other people you follow), or you can use special software, your cell phone, or other ways to read the tweets of people you follow.
I see funny things in your tweets- what do RT, @, and # mean?
- RT stands for "re-tweet," which means to post something that someone else has tweeted. "RT" is followed by "@" and then the Twitter account name of the person who originally posted the item, followed by the actual post. So, if a Twitter user called "Joe" originally posted "Free ice cream at the river!", we might retweet it like this: RT@Joe Free ice cream at the river!
- The "@" symbol is used with a person's Twitter user name, either to reply to or to refer to that person. Someone might post a tweet to us like this:
@FallsLibrary Thanks for the great service!
Someone else might refer to us in a tweet like this:
Sitting here in @FallsLibrary using the free wifi
- The "#" symbol is used to "tag" a tweet with certain keywords (like subjects in the library catalog); this is called a hashtag. Sometimes these keywords are trends; for example, every Friday many people recommend other Twitter users and include a hashtag of #followfriday. You might post a tweet like this:
You should follow @FallsLibrary for all sorts of interesting info #followfriday
